The fan does not usually pull radon out of the rooms. Instead, it creates lower pressure beneath the foundation than inside the house. Soil gas is drawn into the suction pipe rather than through cracks and gaps, then discharged outdoors where it quickly disperses.

What Installation Typically Involves

Homes with both a basement and crawl space may need a combined system. Properties with several slabs, additions, inaccessible areas, or unusual foundations may require multiple suction points or separate pipe branches.

Heat-recovery ventilation or increased ventilation may help in limited situations, but these approaches are generally less common than soil depressurization. Sealing cracks alone is rarely a complete solution because small, hidden entry routes usually remain.

How Much a Radon Mitigation System Costs

A standard residential system typically costs about $1,000 to $2,500 in many U.S. areas. Simple installations may cost less, while complex homes can exceed that range.
